We take a closer look at those vying for a place at the World Championships for Team England.
Bill Gutheridge: From Tamworth, South Staffordshire, Bill has been lure fishing since his early teens. Now in his late 30s, Bill manages the Lure Angling Society forum and is a regular on the waters at Rutland. He hopes to encourage the younger generation to fish and support Team England.
Richard Coles: Richard has fished for over 50 years in more than 20 countries throughout the world. He now concentrates on UK reservoirs, and over the last three years has averaged over 350 zander a year from Rutland.
Jamie Potts: Aged 41 from Wednesfield, Wolverhampton Jamie is an experienced and avid lure angler with a keen eye for Zander. He carries a wealth of experience and passion for the sport into the Team England squad.
Dan Sissons: Introduced to angling by his father at a young age, Dan started out sea fishing but soon got ‘lured’ into catching Perch and predator fishing, and he never looked back. On catching the fish below, Dan said: “After a fruitless comp in Holland a few years back and with a day to spare I wandered the pontoons of a canal looking to settle a few scores with the local fish. I saw this old warrior hanging around a boat and teased him out, all length and no weight is just how I like them!”
Dan Ireland: Growing up in Germany Dan fished for Pike, Perch and Zander in rivers such as the Rhine and Ruhr as well as in some of the countries many large still waters such as Chiemsee, Lippesee and the Mohne Zee from both bank and boat. Having since fished both fresh and salt water globally, Dan brings 30 years of global lure angling experience, a great asset to the Team England lure squad.
Tom Watts: An all round relentless lure angler from South Yorkshire who is always in competition mode even if it’s only with himself. Tom is the current UKLF champion, former Cornish lure festival champion (wrasse section), and has taken part in countless competitions both in England and Europe, proving a great addition to the England Team.
James Dobie: 32 from Cambridge, James is a lure fishing junkie, with a passion for catching Zander. A multiple competition winner out on the boats at Anglian Water events, James will prove a strong team player at the World Championships.
Steve Collett – Team England Manager: Steve carries a large and varied angling CV, as the first person to secure major titles in all disciplines, coarse sea and game. With a World Championship title having eluded him to now, Steve has his sights firmly set on taking a team medal at this years World Champs.
